Симптомы

• После hardly/scarcely/no sooner забывает инвертировать subject и auxiliary

Причина

После отрицательных и ограничительных наречий в начале предложения английский требует инверсии (вспомогательный глагол перед подлежащим). В русском такого правила нет.

Решение

1. Hardly had I arrived when she called.
2. No sooner had he sat down than the phone rang.
3. Never have I seen anything like this.
4. Only after he left did we realize the truth.

Симптомы

• Использует чистый Conditional 3 для смешанного результата (past condition + present result)

Причина

Если условие в прошлом, а результат относится к настоящему — нужно mixed conditional: if + past perfect, would + V (без have).

Решение

1. If I had studied medicine, I would BE a doctor now. (past condition → present state)
2. If I were richer, I would have bought that house. (present condition → past missed action)
3. If I had taken that job, I wouldn't be living here now.

Симптомы

• Dangling participle — причастие не относится к подлежащему главного предложения

Причина

Participle clause должен относиться к подлежащему главного предложения. 'Walking' here describes the trees, but trees can't walk. Это типичная ошибка.

Решение

1. Walking down the street, I saw beautiful trees. (Я шёл — я увидел.)
2. OR: As I walked down the street, the trees looked beautiful.
3. Always check: does the doer of the participle action match the main subject?

Симптомы

• Слишком прямые/категоричные утверждения в академическом письме
• Личное мнение без hedging

Причина

Академический регистр требует hedging: смягчения утверждений модалами (may, might, could, tends to), наречиями (arguably, possibly, generally), и нелично формами (it could be argued, this suggests).

Решение

1. Hedged: 'This may suggest a positive correlation.' / 'It is widely accepted that...'
2. Avoid: 'This is good' / 'I think...' in formal academic writing.
3. Common hedges: appears to, seems to, tends to, may/might/could suggest, it is plausible that, one possible explanation, it could be argued.

Симптомы

• Калька с русского формального стиля
• Чрезмерно формальные фразы в обычном бизнес-контексте

Причина

Русские формальные фразы переводятся буквально и звучат архаично. AmE деловой стиль ценит direct + polite, не over-formal.

Решение

1. Standard formal: 'I would appreciate it if you could...' (NOT 'highly appreciate')
2. Modern AmE business: 'Could you please...' / 'I'd be grateful if you could...'
3. Avoid: 'Esteemed Sir', 'Kindly do the needful' (Indian English), 'I beg to inform you' (archaic)
